Abel Gance's Napoleon will be a century old next year but as an actual film it feels more cinematically modern and expressive and more like a genuine epic which takes advantage of what its medium is capable of than the new Nolanslop thing or anything else like that which people try and gaslight you into thinking is the new big cultural event or whatever
most films ESPECIALLY big Hollywood films now are basically just glorified televised stageplays, they don't really communicate visually at all. To use a more modern less pretentious example just look at something like Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy, those are incredible, visually spectacular films which were clearly made with love and compare that to the new Nolan goyslop
